Uses of lime
Lime is one of the most used and chemical compound due to its multiple uses, even in the past. It has been used widely in very important historical construction such as the Piramids of Egypt, in the Great Wall, the Palace of Knosos, the Temple of Apollo and many others.
Lime was also used extensivelly in the Roman and Byzantine years. It was also used during the Renaissance in very important constructions.
In our days we meet lime in many cases, including the following important categories:
Steel Works |
Widely used as a flux in the purification of waste (desulfurization - removing phosphorus, silicon dioxide) in the stages of conversion into iron ore. |
Construction Industry |
Perhaps the most ancient and irreplaceable material in construction because of its amazing properties (whiteness - plasticity - resistance to vibration, strength, rust, moisture, fire, etc.). Used at all stages of construction primarily as additional material for building and coating. In the building industry is essential as an additive in the manufacture of dry mortar and liquid form and as an adjunct in the manufacture of paints - varnish - grout - insulation and tile adhesives.
Uses into lime pulp, construction mortars, tile adhesives, grouts, colors. |
Road Construction |
Hydrated lime is used to form a consistency improver in production of asphalt by increasing its lifetime. Also as soil conditioners material during construction of roads and airstrips - Railway stabilizing the substrate (ground) for resistance to heavy traffic (trucks - airplane - trains) ensuring their longevity. |
Agriculture and Soil improvement |
In agriculture used with great success as a conditioner material mainly addressing the increased acidity of soils thus correcting the physical and chemical properties by increasing their biological fertility contributing to increased productivity for all types of crops.
|
Waste clean up |
This is an appropriate material for drying and pasteurization of sludge. Because of its properties bind heavy metals, neutralizes odors and acids and removes bacteria-parasites and other pathogens. |
Water process |
Lime is more quantitative chemical agent used in water treatment in aiding purification from bacteria, the softening, the removal of smoke and the neutralization of the acidity. |
Aluminium process |
Processing the base material of the aluminum used in all phases of the conversion ore aluminum oxide. |
Treatment of gas waste |
Lime in all its forms is the world's basic chemical for the treatment of municipal and industrial waste in countless applications. In particular: biological treatment - sludge settlement - Pest burning hospital waste - precipitation atmospheric pollutants etc. |
Chemical Industry |
Lime is an important material with infinite uses in the chemical industry. Examples include products such as: soda - varius cleaners - bleach - glycerin - acetylene - rubber - plastics etc. |
Food Industry |
Widely used in various forms in food industry. Large amounts of processed sugar but also in other categories such as: dairy - farms - bread industry (baking powder), beverages (soft drinks) and in canning food - fruit - vegetables. |
Pharmaceutical |
Used in the enrichment of various drugs and pills (aspirin), treatment of various diseases (osteoporosis), as well as in all the dietary supplements of calcium infancy. Known and the use of nutritional supplements in athletes - pregnant. |
Mining |
Mainly used in the aluminum industry in almost all phases of converting ore into aluminum oxide. Also used int the processing of other minerals such as gold - copper - magnesium - zinc - lead - nickel - uranium. |
Rockwool process |
Necessary enrichment of wool fibers with calcium.
|
Livestock |
Widely used in livestock mainly for animal feed and for disinfection of animal houses (cattle - poultry - fish farms). |
Tanneries |
Necessary material for the initial processing of animal skin. |
Paper industry |
It is found in various stages of production in the paper industry, primarily because of disinfectant properties and the whiteness. |
Ceramics |
Blending with different materials is essential in the production of ceramic products. |
Glass process |
Blending with different materials are essential in the production of glass. |
